Country Royalty arrives with pomp and ceremony delivering a Platinum coach load of mega-hits and stories from trailblazers Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, to Her Majesty’s Theatre at 7.30pm on Saturday 16 January.

This two-hour extravaganza features much loved songs from the catalogues of these four pioneers who are just as embraced today –

By the time Hiram “Hank” Williams was 25, his collection of songs and spoken word had brought superstar status to the “Hillbilly Shakespeare” and is regarded as one of the most significant contemporary Country entertainers of all time. His untimely passing in 1953 at the age of 29, left a legacy of iconic compositions and established industry guidelines for future generations of singer/songwriters.

Cameron Goodall is an ARIA Award-winning composer and musician (The Audreys) and fronts Adelaide folk trio The Dawn Birds.   Cameron is also a versatile actor earning accolades through his one-man show, The Sound of Falling Stars, and other productions with major ensembles including Sydney Theatre Company under the direction of Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton, in Belgium with Ontroerend Goed and Adelaide Cabaret Festival hits, Little Bird and You Me & The Bloody Sea.

A three-time Helpmann Award nominee, Cameron portrays the foundational King of Country music, Hank Williams, through a selection of classic hits and stories – 

Your Cheating Heart, Hey Good Looking, Movin On Over, Cold Cold Heart, Love Sick Blues, I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, Ramblin Man and more.

Johnny Cash had a deeply resonant voice and rebellious spirit which fuelled an illustrious career spanning five decades earning him thirteen Grammy Awards, Country Music Association Awards and a Country Music Hall of Fame induction.  He first began writing songs during military service and released numerous chart toppers blending Country, Rockabilly, Gospel and Folk influences with timeless lyrics of love, redemption and social justice.

Matt Birse embodies the unmistakable presence of “The Man in Black”, channelling Johnny’s spirit through his unique voice, musicianship, signature tunes and stage personality, while delivering an authentic performance of hits –

I Walk The Line, Ring of Fire, Folsom Prison Blues, Jackson, Big River and so much more.

Matt has also garnered global recognition and many awards throughout his two-decade career portraying Elvis Presley.

Superstar Patsy Cline was one of the greatest and fastest female rising stars in Country music before her life was tragically cut short at the age of 29 in a plane crash while flying back to Nashville from a show in Kansas. 

The first to bridge the genres of Country, Pop and Jazz, Patsy’s velvety vocals and ability to convey vulnerability, have resonated with global audiences from the 50’s and 60’s to today –

Multi-talented Kat Caton is delighted to be playing Patsy Cline and says “I remember hearing Patsy’s beautiful voice on my Dad’s cassette and singing with him on Friday nights, so this role feels like coming home.”

You may remember Kat from the “Blowin In The Wind” production last year – bursting with charm and personality and one of our most diverse and in-demand entertainers.  She skips between roles with a strong connection to storytelling and an infectious joy which has taken her around the world.  A classically trained vocalist, theatre credits include playing the lead Maryanne Renate in Shout!, Elphaba in Wicked in Concert in Dubai, Helen in What The World Needs Now and collaborative tribute productions featuring the music of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Joan Baez.

Loretta Lynn rose from humble beginnings to be recognised as the first Queen of Country and Female Entertainer of the Year.   Married at 15 with 4 children at 19 and a grandmother at 29, Loretta’s first hit Honky Tonk Girl, led to an invitation from the Grand Ole Opry where she played for 17 weeks straight. 

Her close friendship began when Patsy Cline was hospitalised after a car accident and Loretta dedicated “I Fall To Pieces” to her in a radio broadcast.   Patsy took Loretta under her wing and taught her about the Nashville scene, the music business and the sisterhood, while each gave the other strong support through their personal challenges.

Loretta’s heartfelt memoir to Patsy, “Me & Patsy Kickin’ Up Dust”, and the highly acclaimed tribute album, “I Remember Patsy”, are testament to their remarkable relationship.

Weezy Jaye’s voice has been described as warm, soulful and extremely versatile as the lead vocalist in the Adelaide Jazz band The Alley Katz and Pop/Rock outfit, L.E.D and is a soloist around town performing as Weezy Listening.

Passionate about sweeping melodies and emotional ballads, her musical influences range between old school and current hits from Eva Cassidy to P!nk and Elton John to Ed Sheeran. 

Weezy says “I’m so looking forward to portraying superstar Loretta Lynn and singing the songs that I love in her timeless catalogue.”
